AppleCare One is finally leaving the United States. Apple confirmed the expansion in a newsroom announcement. The plan reaches the UK, France, Germany and Australia on Tuesday, August 4. It launched in the US roughly a year ago. Therefore this counts as its first move abroad.
One plan instead of several
The pitch is consolidation. Previously, each product needed its own AppleCare+ plan. Now owners cover up to three devices under a single subscription. They can add more from there. In the UK that means £16.99 a month for three devices. Each extra device costs £4.99 a month. Meanwhile French pricing lands at €20.99 and €5.99. The existing US plan costs $20 and $6.
Coverage carries the usual AppleCare terms. Subscribers get unlimited repairs for accidental damage. The plan also covers battery replacement and round-the-clock support. Furthermore, repairs use genuine Apple parts. Apple Stores and authorised service providers handle them. Apple says the bundle saves UK customers up to £11.48 a month. That figure compares against separate plans for an iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
Theft and loss cover widens
The expansion also brings genuinely new protection to Britain. Apple is extending AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss to the iPad and Apple Watch. Previously that tier covered only the iPhone. However, the cover has limits. Apple caps theft and loss claims at two incidents a year. Excess fees still apply.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of worldwide product marketing, called the result simpler and more flexible than before. He summed up the appeal as “one plan, one price.”
The eligibility catch
Not every device qualifies. Apple restricts the plan to products up to four years old. Those devices must also remain in good condition. Headphones face a tighter limit of one year. Consequently, older hardware sitting in a drawer will not qualify. Apple may require a diagnostic check first.
The timing matters. AppleCare+ pricing has drifted upward lately. So a flat multi-device rate looks easier to justify. That suits households deep in Apple hardware. Meanwhile, Apple keeps folding more value into its subscription tier. Our look at the everyday upgrades hiding in Apple services traces the same pattern. However, the company has also faced scrutiny over those services. Its year-late Hide My Email fix showed why earlier this month.
